Dog Quilt for Quilting Bebbs

I could swear I've shared this picture with you before, but for the life of me I couldn't find it posted so am posting it again! Anne at Quilting Bebbs showed an adorable little dog quilt she made for her nan. The puppies in it were sooo cute! So I had to share this one with you.

Emily has begged for a dog for about 12 years now. I think she has just about wore us down. We are going to go look at one this weekend from a rescue place that she has begged for, for about 2 months now. And the poor thing isn't wanted. She isn't the most beautiful dog, but has the qualities that Emily wants - so we will see!And with all the talk of quilting back in the 70's and cardboard templates, I had to share my first quilt again with you! Yes these logs were all drawn out on fabric with cardboard templates. But I did sew it by machine, not hand! The fabrics were all from JoAnne fabrics and were dress fabrics! I still have this quilt and treasure it! To read more of the story go here.

Good luck with the dog! My parents let me and my sister have Missy a little over 12 years ago (they were sure brave!) I can't wait to see pictures, I'm a sucker for big dogs too. :)

I love the story about how you first started quilting... I wonder what percentage of quilters start out with log cabin! I certainly did. :)

The dog quilt is soo cute! I remember making cardboard templates too..that was many years ago. Thank goodness some wonderful person invented the rotary cutter.

Thank you so much Dawn - what a lovely quilt and so much more work than my dog quilt - I have to say I break the mould - I didn't start with log cabin, didn't even know what it was til I refound patchwork in around 1997 when DD2 was tiny. I started off with english pieced hexagons over papers in the early 1970's - they were all the rage over this side of the pond then. Still doing them now, getting to the end of a sofa throw in them at present :o) and have a charm top in them just waiting for borders and sandwiching - must dig that one out and finish it.

Oh I like your log cabin. I don't think I have ever seen vertical stripes in a log cabin. Very nice. I made my first quilt with templates too, even though I had a rotary cutter I didn't know how to use it.

Glad to hear that Emily is (fingers crossed) getting a dog. Wonderful companions. We had a bull terrior when I was growing up - I still miss him a great deal, but at least I've stopped having the dreams about him. Those used to upset me because I was so happy to see him and then I woke up and remembered he was gone.

First, your girls are both lovely. And, I hope Emily will enjoy her pet. It's a good experience for the whole family.

When we moved into our present home (29 years ago!), I said it was time for our boys to have a pet. So, we got a little Jack Russell terrier mix, named "Jaclyn Jean, the Puppy Queen, the Miss America of Puppy Girls". We just called her Jackie.

My husband had never had a house dog, and the first Christmas, we boarded her a few days while we were out of town. She came home with a cold. My husband, on Christmas break from school, called me at work, and said, "There's something wrong with this dog." I asked what was wrong. He responded, "Well, I don't know. I never had a dog." So, I prodded, what's she doing? "That's just it . . . she won't do anything. She won't eat . . . she won't sleep . . . she's just laying here. I'll bet you I've rocked her for two hours."

I comment on both your posts at once Dawn. The quilts are wonderful, fun to see the first one! The girls looks liek they had fun and your daughter has quite an eye for taking photos! I saved a few to keep for background. I like to have nice pictures to use as the computer background. Right now I have Fiona's alloment picture on my screen!!

LOVE the quilting on that quilt! The paisley's are beautiful It look like it was done with a Statler? Just gorgeous!

Lovely doggie quilt! Who was the lucky recipient?

Emily will be a good 'mum' to the dog if she's wanted it for so long. I hope it all works out.

And now I see the quilt in your previous post, I see the edges are straight! LOL

I like the pink, blue, yellow, and green log cabin!

And the dog quilt is cute too. I keep thinking about doing a cat one, of course, lol.

I do hope you got Emily her dog! The mutts that no one else wants are always the most loveable! Can't wait to here all about her new puppy!

The dog quilt is wonderful! It's a shame I can't see all of it, but assume the lovely bone border is repeated at the bottom? Where is it on show? Did you win a prize (and if not, why not!).
