Gingerbread!

MMMMmmm, can you smell it? That fresh backed smell of gingerbread! My family loves gingerbread. I love the smell, but not so much to eat.

Years ago I learned how to make the big old fashioned gingerbread houses. So when I saw this fabric last week in the store I had to do Tonya's little wall hanging idea with it! Since the word Gingerbread is much longer than "small" it actually is about 35" x 28" - so maybe it will make a cute Christmas table mat.

I forgot to scan a picture of my famous Halloween gingerbread houses I made. When the kids were younger - around 1st grade I was known as the Halloween gingerbread house lady. I would make this big haunted house out of gingerbread and then take it into school and let the kids decorate it for Halloween. It ended up being tradition that the class would make it, and then all the other classes would come to visit the room to check out the house sometime before Halloween. And the teachers always teased they fought over who got a Denman in their class! Darn, now I'll have to go home and find those pictures. I also did the traditional Christmas gingerbread houses a few times also, but the kids always enjoyed the Halloween one better, plus school wasn't as busy in Oct as it is in December!

This is so cute! I can smell the gingerbread from here in Finland! A friend of mine who is a French teacher and one year she made gingerbread houses with her beginners to learn the rooms of the house, etc. We stayed up all night preparing and went through four mixers! We had a mixer curse going on and our dough was probably a bit thick for the poor things, too. Brought back a great memory for me!

To start with .... I Love your Gingerbread wall hanging.
Aren't Gingerbread houses fun. My mother use to make a great big one for my sister's & my classes. When I got older (in college) I would make gingerbread houses for all the kids that I babysat (my way through college.) There were years that between my sister & me we would have a whole viliage of gingerbread houses in our dinningroom. A few years ago I made one for work for our christmas party. The powers at be decided that it should be used as a door prize. There oalmost was a rumble over it.
Have you ever made stained glass windows in your house? When I was in college we started doing that. It really adds something.

love the wallhanging/mat. The fabric is great! I tried making gingerbread houses a couple of times but they always had problems... my son and I went to making cookie houses -- buy out the store of the wafer cookies and use them as bricks...

Love your new table mat! Very cute...and what a conversation piece that will be this year at your table!

Oh, that gingerbread piece turned out cuter than the dickens!!! And, when I was still teaching, I would have been one of those teachers wrangling to get a Denman in my class too LOL! One year a co-worker and I had the kids make their own GB houses with graham crackers for the house. What an experience!!! Your way sounds better!!!
