It's Done!

I finished my log cabin top! Isn't it wonderful! Now I just need to decide if I quilt and bind it as is, or add some borders. The pattern calls for adding a 2" strip of the light fabric around it - probably to make it float more. What do you think? I can't decide.

We had a wonderful dinner on the Delaware and Chesapeake Canal the other night. I had never had crabs before so it was a lot of fun. My nephew was having a great time showing me how to destroy them! My sister thinks he likes to eat crabs just because he can pull it all apart and break things!

Well back to reality - I"m on my way home to IL this morning. I feel like it is going to take me forever to catch up!

What a wonderful trip you had. I just love Lancaster. We have friends around there. I too enjoy going fabric shopping. Love your rooster. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like you have had a wonderful time :o) And the broken star log cabin is gorgeous!!! I think I'd like to add the border, but I won't know for sure until I've seen them on (and then they might have to come off again *lol*).

hey that's the same reason I love crab - how often do you get to play with, and even better destroy, your food?

won-der-ful ! I love this star !

I love it Dawn. I might add the lighter narrow border and then bind it with a scrappy binding of the darker prints!

Your log cabin quilt is terrific! If it were mine I would probably put the light border & then a dark border to frame the entire piece.

Lancaster is just a wonderful place to be. . .I have been going there for years.

You mentioned Zook's. . .but did you get to Sauder's? It's a little off the beaten path in Denver, PA -- but not far from the Pennsylvania Turnpike. They have so much fabric you could spend several hours just looking!! hee hee (been there, done that!) LOL

Lovely pictures.

I would add a light border, to make the star float.

Crab is one of my favourite food, so much fun to eat.

I'm still catching up, too - but we'll both be there before we know it. Love the photos that you've shared - the hand quilting is just stunning. And even though I don't care for wine, I think I'd have to have a bottle just for the shelf *s* Your log cabin top is another wonderful Dawn piece that makes me want to copy you - I just love everything you do . . . soon you are going to think I'm a stalker.

Your quilt is just beautiful, yes I agree you should add a border to frame it.

I'd probably add the light border to "float" the star --anything else is up to you!

And yep -- crab is fun precisely BECAUSE you get to destroy it while eating. It's also one of the reasons I enjoy lobster -- the ultimate play with your food experience.

Your log cabin star is gorgeous, Dawn! The variety of prints really makes it sparkle. I like Darlene's idea of the light border and then a dark scrappy binding ... yummy! Sounds like you had a fabulous trip ... love that rooster!

Gorgeous quilt! If it were mine, I would also put on the light framing strips. Then I would probably add a dark scrappy border before I bound it. But it's your quilt so we'll all be holding our breath to see what you decide to do!

I'm with the group here - I'd add a light border and then a darker one.

Yup, yup... add the light border. It'll be stunning as a floating star with a dark binding. Without a border, the binding might cover up some of your star points.

Wonderful Log Cabin star!
Ohhh crabs.. love the meat, but feel ssooo soorryy for them!

Personally, I'd add the border - as others have said, it will float more, plus without it, the sashing will crowd the start points, I might put a wider one than 2" on, myself, but it depends on what you are looking for.

Hi Dawn, totally awesome pictures these past vacation posts! Glad your mom is feeling some better. I do LOVE your fabric purchases! What fun to take all that home and play with it.
I vote for a light border(mininum) for the really outstanding log cabin star top!!! Beyond that, who knows? I always have to 'see' it before I decide. Hugs, Finn

Your loggy top is awesome! I love crabs! You have to work hard to get at the good stuff, but it's worth it! :)

The star is great...I'd go with the light strip around it. It will set the star off.

Crabs...you are so lucky! They are one of the things I miss most about living in Maryland! (that and fresh peach cake...ummmmm)

Wow, very impressive!

I guess I'd let the border treatment depend on how I wanted to use/display the quilt. Somehow, it looks different on a bed, and if you need a bigger, darker border to make it the size you want, then go for it. But if it's a wall quilt, then I like the idea of a skinny light border and the scrappy binding in darks.
