It's Done!

I finished my log cabin top! Isn't it wonderful! Now I just need to decide if I quilt and bind it as is, or add some borders. The pattern calls for adding a 2" strip of the light fabric around it - probably to make it float more. What do you think? I can't decide.

We had a wonderful dinner on the Delaware and Chesapeake Canal the other night. I had never had crabs before so it was a lot of fun. My nephew was having a great time showing me how to destroy them! My sister thinks he likes to eat crabs just because he can pull it all apart and break things!

Well back to reality - I"m on my way home to IL this morning. I feel like it is going to take me forever to catch up!

A Wonderful Day in Lancaster County

We had a wonderful day in Lancaster County. Eating and Shopping! I found this really cute rooster at the restaurant we ate at. Isn't it adorable!

And I went to Zook's! Oh what heaven I was in! I got a boatload of fabric!

We also found a winery and look at the cool bottle of wine I got! And it tastes awesome!

I also went to the The People's Museaum and saw some gorgeous quilts. This is just one little cute display they had. The weather was perfect and it was a great day.

My sister and her family are home now so I"ve been busy with them, tonight we are going out for crabs. I"ve never done that, so this will be interesting.

No Surprises!

OK, no surprises today. Above is the "real" layout of some of the log cabin blocks. This is only 16 of 64 though, so there will be more to come. But I"m just LOVING how it looks. I"ve got it laying out on my mom's chair and everytime I walk by I love it more. I"m dying to finish the other log cabins so I can get more added.

And another project I did the last few days. I got this pieced for a Christmas gift. I have 4 more to go! I got the fabric at the Quilter's Hive here in Delaware. Yes I'm having a great time fabric shopping! I"m happy with how this turned out - especially since I HATE paper piecing! But this went pretty fast and will be a breeze to quilt. It finishes at about 15" x 15" - so not bad. The pattern is one I"ve had, so I don't know if it can be found anywhere still, but the website is still up. It is called "Silent Night" by Sweet Peas.

Tomorrow we are off for Lancanster County. I'll be doing more fabric shopping - of course! Our days have been pretty busy and I've also been trying to work 1/2 days, so I haven't kept up with the blogs as well as I wanted, but I promise when I get home and settled in I'll be back to visit all of you.

A quick peek and surprise

A few more log cabin blocks..... a surprise for them - not all 1/2 dark and 1/2 light!

Hi from Delaware

Just popping in to say hi! I"m having a great time with my mom. We are doing lots of movie marathons, I'm doing lots of sewing, and we are eating lots of good food! I have no idea where the fruit stand gets the sweet corn this time of year but it is soooo good!

I have a few more clues to my quilt project out here. What you've seen so far was log cabins. I forgot to let you know that they finish at 4.5"! Each log is only 1/2" wide. I have 32 more log cabins to make. But here is a peek of what I do have done.

Today mom was feeling good so we went to my favorite quilt shop out here - Li'l Country Shoppe. This store is all prims and folk art stuff (well mostly) and I always find tons that I love. Today was no exception. Mom treated and I brought all these goodies home! We had so much fun shopping and picking out fabrics. First the fabric above is just misc fabrics I got for projects I"m working on and/or I know I will use and can't find by my house.

Then these are going into a prim project I"ve been dying to make but never found the right plaids! I'll keep the project a surprise because I'll probably start it when I get home! (Well home in IL).

Then the coolest purchase we got were these fabrics and book. The book is "Laps from Fats for Family & Friends". This is the 3rd book EllenReplogle has done on fat quarter quilts. I just loved the other two and picked this new one up, opened the front cover and there was a quilt I fell in LOVE with! Mom took one look and practically begged me to make it for her! So we then started over and picked out fabrics for it. The big stripey fabric is the backing.

So can you tell today was as good as Christmas! I can't wait to get back to sewing tonight!

A quick hi!

I made it to Delaware and have been busy. I"m keeping up with all of your postings but not taking the time to comment - just know I"m still enjoying the posts.

Last night I played a really fun game with my sister, mom and nephew called Ticket to Ride. It was a lot of fun! They left today for Myrtle Beach, so I started my quilt project. Here is a quick peek. But don't think I'm even giving it away! There are plenty of surprises to come yet.

My bags are packed - well almost

I'm leaving tomorrow morning for 2 weeks to my mom's house out east. My sister says they installed high speed wireless since the last time I was out there, so I'm hoping I can keep in touch - but just in case I don't - you know why!

Above is my Medallion Reproduction Challenge. I'm suppose to have round 3 done by the end of this month. Well..... I think I'm going to have to settle for one side! The center theme was 1) Your favorite, whether that be favorite block, fabric, color - whatever. Round 2 was Frame It. I went simple with the plain border. Round 3 is "Diamonds are a girls best friend". Once again I'm going simple with squares on point since the center is the main feature. I'm thinking the next round or so I will go a bit more detailed again. Just depends on what the round theme is I guess. Round 4 which needs to be done by end of July is "Bountiful Garden". I"m still thinking on that one. You know I"m not a super floral type girl!

So - toodles everyone!

It's Done!!!!

I finally finished it! And have the back all ready. I"ll be dropping it off at the long-armers today! Wheh!

I know many of you wanted me to keep the yellow block the way it was. But this was for Jenna and 18 year old girls just don't understand the maverick thing! She would probably never have used the quilt if "it was wrong"! So I ripped it out and fixed it.

The back has 1 leftover block and leftover signature blocks. The rest of the fabric has bandaids and Rx bottles - why? Because she is going to college for Pharmacy! So how fun is that! I figured this was as close to Pharmacy as I was going to find for backing. I doubted I would find a fabric that said "morphine", "prozac" and "viagra" all over it!

YIKES!

No I didn't see that with the yellow block! I posted the pic so fast I never looked at it, and you are right - it is so much easier to see mistakes I think in a picture - it removes you a bit from the real thing.

Thanks - I have to go fix that right now before I take it to the long armers tomorrow! Better finding it now than later!

Making Progress....

2 more rows to go!!!!

What will it be?

I had some time today while taking a break from Jenna's quilt, so I cut out fabric for my next project! I"m not showing what it is until next week. This is what I'm taking to my mom's house while I'm there for 2 weeks. I've wanted to make this now for ages, but it is a bit repetitive, so I just never started. Well now is the time! It will be perfect for taking with me! I can do mindless sewing while visiting with my mom! So until then - enjoy the pieces!

Oh by the way, Jenna's quilt is coming along. I"m hoping to have it done by tomorrow night!

I keep on truckin'....

I"m not really truckin' but I feel like I keep going and going and going with Jenna's quilt. BUT - I"m making progress! Tonight I finished all the pieces! I have 9 more blocks I have to put the 9 patch sections together, but that is it! All the other blocks are together! And look! I even started putting rows together! It is finally starting to look like a quilt!

I"m kind of excited to get this done to I can start doing fun sewing again! Well not that this isn't fun, but you know, play type stuff!

Happy Birthday Emily

Today my baby turns 15! Nothing magical about 15 other than making me feel REALLY OLD! But she is totally excited.

Emily is my active sportsy type girl. She also can ride a unicycle and juggle. She also LOVES to make balloon "things". I am hoping she doesn't decide to join the circus! Her dream is to move to Alaska and raise sled dogs. (She made the penquin and Bart this weekend).

She wanted a 3 layer funfetti cake for her bday tonight, so I got it all made yesterday, and her choice for dinner is going out for Olive Garden! Woo hoo on that one - I don't have to cook or do dishes!
I went to the movies with my friend yesterday afternoon (right after Emily figured out Bart) and look who I ran into!

Happy Birthday Emily! Even though you won't want to admit it - you'll always be my little princess!

Graduation Flurries

Oh I have been so busy this past week with Graduation "stuff"! Of course we had the party last weekend and then the real ceremony was Tues night. It was a gorgeous night and it was held out on the football field. Other than being really hot (about 90) it was clean and lovely. And thank goodness where our school is, it is flat as a pancake so we did have a breeze! (And no that isn't Jenna talking - but I thought that picture would give you a good idea how they set it up on the football field).

This weekend we had a multitude of graduation parties. Jenna has been flying from one to another and I attended a few of them with her.

When I get a chance I keep plugging along on her graduation quilt! Here are some more blocks/colors. Look at the adorable one my niece drew for her (she is 13 but handicapped) and then the other one is my sisters for her! Leave it to Darci to think of something perfect and unusual! I"m not sure but I think she said this is the life cycle of carbon or something like that. I can't remember!
