Finally! It is my turn for "Bowls with Borders"! I just hope you are not disappointed. I can't believe the amount of creativity everyone has had with this. There were so many fun ones, I"m ready to go back to the sewing room and make more!
And before I forget stop by Regina's web page and thank her for sharing her pattern with us all. And stop by Madame Samm and Carol's blogs and thank them for hosting and organizing this hop!
The first thing I had to decide was what kind of "look" or fabric I wanted to use. Should I go bright and funky? Or use some of my favorite reproduction fabrics? Should put something in my bowls? And how many bowls? Finally I decided to just jump in and start. So I played it safe and used my civil war repro fabrics and decided to just leave the bowls empty since this summer has been just too busy for me! Here it is:
I decided they were pretty cute in my little table top quilt hanger. So since I hadn't made a fall quilt yet for my daughter for her table top hanger I decided to make a bright version for her hanger. I love how the colors turned out in this one for her:
I decided I had to do one more! It is like eating chips - you can't
So nothing too exciting like some of the versions I"ve seen, but I have to say, I had a great time making them! And now that I"ve seen some really cool ones I have a million more ideas and just might go back and make more!
And to reward those who have hung in with me this far I decided to have a surprise drawing! The reward is a surprise, but it will be very quilting related and I"m sure you will love it! All you have to do is leave a comment and tell me: "If you were a bowl, what kind of bowl would you be?" I"ll be drawing in a few days to give everyone a chance and catch up with all the different time zones and countries. Make sure if you don't have a blog to leave an email address where I can contact you if you win. Who knows, there may be some runner up surprises also!

Now each of these is special. Love the civil war repros - very classic and great for the fall. The bright is cheery and sure to give plenty of smiles. And just love the idea of two size bowls in your third piece. A great gift idea. Thank you for sharing.

Great job on your bowls...I especially like the dotty background with batiks. I would be a sturdy practical reliable corningware bowl with a lifetime warranty!
ReplyDeleteYou are hooked on paperpiecing bowls, aren't you? They are beautiful with a lot of contrasting colors. I have started another one in black, white, and lime. If I were a bowl, I'd be a golden bowl filled with golden delicious apples!

I love your bowls, especially like the way the pattern turned out with the two sizes! Today, at least, I think I'd be a chipped old pottery bowl, the kind that is weathered brown on the outside and a little lighter on the inside, well worn but still functional, lol!

Lovely bowls! I think I would be hand blown end of day bowl. It is so interesting to see all the colors and designs that form with the leftover colored glass.

I would be a bright blue and yellow bowl that would be used for popcorn. Your bowls are great, it is fun to try many different fabrics. I plan to make more soon, I like the idea of making it with a fall theme.

There seems to be a common trend amongst the bowl bloggers...they can't make just one! I really like the repro fabric one, nice and calm and antique-y! I would want to be a soup bowl in fall colors, deep enought to hold lots of soup but not so deep that it won't cool off! Then fill me up with some minestrone!

ReplyDeleteGreat job. The little hanging quilts are charming. I like the 30's prints myself. If I were a bowl-hm, anything but a Super Bowl. They get thrown, kicked, dropped, fumbled and really take a lot of abuse. :)

WONDERFUL adaptation! As far as what kind of bowl would I like to be.........? hmmm... PASTA, bold colors, and big enough to share the contents with lots of friends! Great times here!!

Let me first say, your bowls are awesome. Great job...love those Fiesta Ware bowls with the polka dot background. Now...if I were a bowl I would be a pottery bowl, just like the one I was gifted from a friend back in Canada. It is a grey/blue bowl that I use almost every day. Thanks for sharing!!
