Cactus, Buffalo and Woolie Mammoths

Made it to Oklahoma and it is HOT. Friday night we went to the Iowa Cubs game in OKC (they were playing the OKC Redhawks) and the temp did get DOWN to a lovely 102 degrees. Let me tell you we were HOT.

Had a great time at the Sam Noble Natural History museum on campus of OU. Saw me some buffalo (fake) and cactus'.

And a woolie mammoth statue!

On the Road

Pretty easy to guess from the pics where our trip took us the first day!

Course I found this beauty - thought Mark needed it to mow the lawn!

2 little projects

Thought I would share 2 other little projects I finished while out at my mom's house. I have to quilt them yet, but I had to share! And ignore the wrinkles - I haven't had time to iron them since I pulled them out of my suitcase!

The top picture is a little wall hanging I made with the penny flowers from Primitive Gatherings new book Summer Gatherings. This particular quilt isn't in the book, but I used the flowers from the penny mat to put in the squares. As you can see in the second picture they are LITTLE! The flowers are probably only about 1-3/4" tall. Isn't it cute! My mom loved it. I think I may have to make a second one for her.

This one turned out to be my favorite one.

I also made this little feathered star. It finishes at about 17-1/2" square. This was one of those Little Bits patterns with the tissue paper foundations inside. I've wanted to make this for years but was too chicken. I finally made it! I still lost some points even with the foundation piecing - but it is still cute - and LITTLE!

I"ll be gone again for a few weeks as I take a real vacation with DH to drive the midwest and visit the girls. See you in August!

Just a quick post

Just a quick post. I"m out at my mom's visiting for 2 weeks, so I"ve been busy. I did bring my featherweight with me and made the above quilt top called Hashbrowns! Mom bought me the kit last year at a local store. It was a lot of fun to put together. Something just easy and in my colors!

And here is the start of my next project - And the horribly hard puzzle we have been putting together! It looked so fun and easy. Let me tell you, it is a bear to put together.

This weekend's work

I got the quilt for my sister's friends little girl this weekend. Pretty cute for using up leftover blocks!

And I made a travel pillow case to go with it!

And 3 new chemo hats, one to match the quilt!

Also made another travel pillow case.
And the big accomplishment..... I made a test block from Laundry Basket quilt Eldon. I'm going to turn this into a one block quilt. Wanted to make a test one before starting to cut the fabrics and working on it for real. I like how it turned out, even with scraps!

Quilt Top finished

I finished the quilt top and it is off to the quilters! I didn't have time to get a good full picture, but be assured - no more hole in the middle and border is on.

With the left over blocks and fabric I made this charity quilt. I already have plans for where it is going to go.

My new pincushion!

Look at the new pincushion I made this week. I really didn't need one, but I just love pincushions! I got the pattern and fabric when I was out at my mom's a few weeks ago! And aren't the pins cute! I got those at the Chicago quilt show.
UPDATE - I meant to do this last night in the post but forgot. Sorry.
The pincushion pattern is by Miss Rosie's! It is called Fruit Salad Pincushions!
The pins are by Just Another Button Company - and they are called Just Pins!

I also worked on some chemo hats. A friend of my sisters has a friend who has a little girl with cancer. She wanted some fun hats to wear but all the "hats" were the same as the other little girls wear to the hospital. So I took one those and ripped it apart to figure out how to make them! They look big though. I don't know why, I used the one they bought as the pattern pieces, so we will see. If nothing else they fit Pooh well!

What I did today

What did I do today? I treated myself to a New York Beauty class taught by Toby Lischko! Was it wonderful! I got the above 2 sections done so far. You all have probably seen Toby's patterns in magazines. Everytime I open up a magazine she seems to have a quilt in it lately.

She taught us "unfoundation" piecing for the points, and curved piecing for the .... wait.... yup.... the curves! She also has these AWESOME templates for cutting out the pieces, and trimming the unfoundation piece after it is sewn.

I would recomend her class to anyone who would have a chance to take it, and definately her patterns and templates. I got her cutting corners templates today also that you can use for flying geese, square in a square and any block that has triangles on the end of the block like a snowball block.

She has a new book and templates out also for making a St. Louis Starblock with no Y seams. I liked that idea! I suggest you go check out her web page and all the stuff she has!

Finally a finish

I finally finished something! OK, well not quite finished, I still have to sew the binding down, but it is sewn on the top! The HST's were the cut-offs from the flying geese. But I still had a bunch left over.

So I made this small quilt! This one I had finished a while ago! But wanted to show it with the big quilt. How fun is that!

Last bday block for a few weeks!

And here is the birthday block I finished tonight for my friend Ginny. I actually have this one done ahead of time. That isn't to say it won't take me past her birthday to mail it! Need to take a break and work on Emily's graduation quilt now!

Another Bday Block

This birthday block is for Laura. Yes I'm way behind on hers too! But it is now done and ready to mail. It is from the Nearly Insane book, which I thought was appropriate since I was TOTALLY INSANE for making it!

Happy Late Birthday Laura!

Busy, busy, busy

I"ve been busy with work and then took a trip out east to visit my mom and sister. Got back and then my pc crashed. I've finally got it back working and have a few minutes to breathe! I figured my first order of business was to get some birthday blocks done for the birthday block swap my group of friends and I are doing. Above is Roseanna's Hummingbird. We lost Roseanna this fall so se decided to make blocks that make us think of her and make the quilt for her brothers. I need to add some morning glories yet to make the block 9" square, but I had to share the hummingbird - isn't it great!

And this is a flower for Viki. I hope she likes Birds of Paradise! Actually I hope she can figure out what it is! Paper piecing isn't my strongest suit!

I"ve also been working on Emily's graduation quilt. I"ll have to get pictures of that later.

Late Bday Gift and Purses Galore

Look at the ADORABLE quilt my friend from Australia made me for my birthday! Isn't it great! It took me a bit to post this.

And I've been busy making purses. I loved my purse I made so much from the kit I got at the chicago show I needed to make one for summer!

I'm going to visit my sister this week out east so I made her one along with our friends out there!
For the 2 little girls I made purses without zippers! Aren't they fun!
