I"ve done a few things

I forgot how much time doing homework and studying for tests is when you got so school!  I"m telling you - doing this homework for my class is sucking my sewing time away from me!  But I am enjoying the class and learning lots.

I have found time to do a few things.  One of the things I finished recently was a little table runner for a little friend of mine out east.  She asked if I could make a dresser scarf for her dresser.  She has the cutest prettiest hot pink dresser in her room.  But she was sad because Grandma stayed in her room one visit and spilled something on the top that left some ugly marks on the pretty pink.  So she wanted to cover it up.  So I made the above table runner for her.  I washed it up today and tomorrow it will be flying its way to its new home!  I used all I had left of scraps from a quilt I made her a few years ago.  It will be wonderful on that hot pink dresser - don't you think!?

I also managed to finish a quick quilt for my youngest daughter who is graduating from college this coming spring. She already got her Christmas Present for this year - a Sea Kayak.  She wanted one this last summer as she was working for a Kayak Outfitter on Lake Superior and has a job there this coming summer leading Kayak Tours.  So we advanced her some cash to purchase her own kayak - it is bigger than her car!

So when I saw this Kayak Fabric I knew I needed to make her a kayak quilt.  Got that finished and it is quilted and bound, ready for a Christmas Surprise!  (ok I had snapped this on my ipad and I can't get it to turn it right side up - but you get the idea!)

Village Quilters Quilt Show

It has been FOREVER since I've had time to go to a quilt show. Well today I got to go to the Village Quilters Quilt show. What fun! There was so much eye candy I don't know where to start. But I think tonight I"ll share some of the MANY, MANY Bonnie Hunter quilts they had. It was amazing how many of Bonnie's quilts I saw! Enjoy!

Halloween Quilt is finished with binding!

I picked up my Halloween quilt a few weeks ago and got the binding on!  It is all set for this Halloween!  Here are some more pictures of it!  Enjoy!

Halloween is coming!!

I can't wait to get my hands on my new Halloween quilt!  My amazing, super talented quilter just finished it today!  Isn't it amazing?  I'm off to quilt camp this week so will get to see it in person this week!  If you want to see a few more pictures go over to Viki's blog and check it out!

Surprise Art Finding

Well the big news is I'm going back to school.  After 30 years of being out of college I decided to take a college course this fall to learn something new for work. I'm a bit nervous...  Not sure about keeping up with all those young ones!  And it has been so long since I've had homework and tests!  The class is only one night a week, but 3 hours long.  Will I fall asleep after working all day?!!   I went today to pick up my text book and check out where my classroom will be.   The few times I've been in the building this month, it doesn't matter what door I go into, I never find it to get back out!  Last thing I wanted was to be trying to find a way out and my car at 10:00 at night!

So I figured out my route today, but the big surprise was some awesome pictures hanging on the wall between the old part of the building and the new technology building!  The depth isn't large, but they have this really awesome 3D look.  I snapped some pics, but of course pictures don't capture the 3D effect.  Enjoy!   I've also included some information on the artist and this collection below. 

Passages by Steve Waldeck

“Passages” is an interactive artwork that features images combined with sound and music composed by Peter Gena. The work consists of a series of 16 three-dimensional wall-hung imagry units located in the link between the Library Atrium and the Technology Building at the Grayslake campus. The spacing between the units varies accordingly in proportion to the their widths. The subject matter is an actual American gothic farmhouse and its surrounding environment that stood until recently in Lake County, Illinois. This homage, installed at the College of Lake County, consists of small glimpses of a single reality, filling a corridor that is 96 feet in length. Passages uses actual photographic processes, as well as bas-relief forms, painting, lighting, motion and sound to create a convincing realistic presence. The series of the farmhouse interior is presented on one side of the corridor, while the exterior views cross to the opposite side.

In the artist’s statement, Steve Waldeck wrote that “Passages conceptually evolved from my 35 years spent here in northern Illinois. It is during the course of this time that I have learned to appreciate the passing beauty of this farm-rich heartland. Grayslake, the home of the College of Lake County, has been part of this classic transition from farmland. This piece is inspired by this passage. Parts of this piece are an actual representation of a local site, just a few miles from the college campus.”
