Its countdown time!

It is countdown time! Only 3 more days and I"m off for Linda's house to go to Paducah with Linda, Jan and the "crew"! I"m so bummed Laura can't come this year, so I guess I'll just have to shop for her!

I did manage to do a few finishes, although I"ve been so busy at work trying to get everything done before I leave. Above is my mom's star quilt. When I was visiting last summer she saw this in "Laps from Fats for Family and Friends" and just loved it. Wanted to know if I would make it for her if she bought the fabrics. Of course I would! Bonnie quilted it for me months ago before she moved, but I never had time to get the binding on. Well the binding is on, and it is all washed and crinkly! It is off to live with my mom mid-May when I go out! So I thought I should enjoy it for a few weeks before it leaves!

And I quilted, bound and washed my Broken Dishes quilts from my Kathleen Tracy workshop she did. The quilt is from her book "Prairie Children and their Quilts". Didn't it turn out adorable!

And look what I did with all my scraps from it!

Oh and look what I got in the mail yesterday! One of Darlene's famous pincushions! Aren't the colors/fabrics great! THANK YOU SO MUCH Darlene!

Where to Start

I have so much to show you! So I guess I"ll just share some today and the rest later. Yesterday was my class with Kathleen Tracy and the Broken Dishes quilt from her Prairie Children and their Quilts book. It was so much fun! Kathy is so down to earth and not a perfectionist - I liked that. You can tell she really loves those old diaries of women back on the prairie and making these quilts for fun and enjoyment, not prize winning. That made it so much fun. While we sewed she read to us some passages of a series of books "Covered Wagon Women" that the author Kenneth Holmes had collected and published old diaries of women from the wagon trail. It was so interesting.

She also mentioned she is thinking of starting an online group and and an online doll quilt club type thing. She was wondering if there was interest in such a thing and I said I know several people who would probably love it! So keep an open for it on her web site if you think you would like to do it.

So here is my finished top! It had a different border fabric, but Kathy had brought this homespun with and I really liked the way that looked instead of the print from the kit - so I used this! And I threw in the tan/brown checked fabric to give it a bit more brownish tint. I"m really happy with it!

And here is what I made from all the little scraps of fabric from the kit! Adorable isn't it!

And here is a new batch of Civil War Blocks! I still have many more to go to catch up with this week! But at least I"ve made progress!

I got my doll quilt!

Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Look at my doll quilt! It is absolutely stunning! Sossy had my name and made this beauty for me! She loves crazy quilts and candy. Does this just not say Sossy! It is amazing! I was just floored when I opened my package. I wish I could have gotten better pictures, but I had a terrible time trying to get a good picture. They just don't show the color as beautiful as it is.

I also got this wonderful peppermint candy she made - is this just not awesome!

Another Doll Quilt finds it's home!

Another doll quilt from our exchange has found its home! Laura made this quilt for Sossy! Sossy and her family love Halloween, and so does Laura! So this was the perfect idea for Laura's surprise to Sossy! Oh and if you have ever read Sossy's blog you know that CANDY plays a big part in Sossy's life too! She is candy crazy!

Finally! I get to share!

I finally get to share what I have been working on for the last 2 months or so! The weekend I went to Sossy's house, Sossy, Laura, Heather, Lanna and I all drew names and decided to make a doll quilt for our name for Christmas. Well I worked away on my quilt - but I couldn't share my progress because "someone" might see! Well I couldn't stand it anymore and I finally got it all finished and mailed off!

And Laura got it in the mail yesterday! Go check it out on her blog too! I loved it so much that when I got her top done I had to make one for myself too! But mine is kind of sad looking compared to hers! It needs a lot of work! And I can't wait to find out who has my name! This was so much fun! I think we all are having a good time with it!
