Tentmakers of Cairo (Egypt)

I have LOVED the quilts the Tentmakers of Cairo make for years and years now.  Their work is truly amazing.  I knew about them from a friend who lived there for a short time, and learned a lot about them.  In fact I own the above quilt - a truly spectacular piece of work.

I found this interview with Jenny Bowker and 2 tentmakers on you tube.  It is truly amazing to see them work.  So I thought you might like to see it too!  ENJOY!

That is truly amazing! I can't needle turn at all and am just in awe of how FAST they do this. All are such beautiful works of art.

I stumbled on to your blog Via 3 other blogs on Quilts of Cairo, I also have always been fascinated by how HUGE these quilts are and the 1000s of hours that go in to making a tent. Interesting thing for me was when I saw your quilt I realised I have a small table runner that was given to me about 12 years ago by an overseas visitor, but I did not realise it came from Cairo, it is the same design as yours but very very much smaller. I have always loved this piece and have it draped over my camphor chest in my room that was my mums. Now I will appreciate it even more. Cheers Glenda Australia
